With single-use plastics in the headlines daily, what are the options?
Degradable / EPI Additive
These bags contain an additive to help the degradation of the bags over a period of time. They have a shelf life of 18-24 months thereafter, in the right environment, the degradation process will begin.
Compostable Bags
These clever bags look and feel the same as a plastic bag but are made from corn starch, whilst these bags can’t be recycled, simply use them in your home compost.
Bag for Life
Heavy-duty plastic bags, designed to be reusable. They are made from old recycled bags and refuse sacks and have a Blue Angel accreditation.
Blue Angel is a cleaner and ethical version of recycled plastic. With a minimum of 82% post-consumer waste and 18% post factory waste. included in the 18% you will have masterbatch (water-based ink and bonding agents) which are also recyclable.
For a factory to achieve this accreditation, they would have to have been audited by Blue Angel, who look at the way the factory recycle, clean, sort and then re-enter back into the system the recycled material. This is the highest quality recyclate you can get in a carrier bag.
Paper Bags
Are fully recyclable and environmentally friendly. They are often perceived by end users as the most environmentally friendly option and therefore the choice of brands who wish to enhance their credentials. They also carry a printed message very well and hold their shape, but of course will degrade with use.
